How much does a new boiler cost?

What a new boiler actually costs, what drives the price, and when a straight swap turns into a bigger job.

A new boiler is one of those purchases you make rarely and under pressure, usually when the old one has just died. That's not the moment to be working out fair pricing from scratch, so here's a straight guide to what a new boiler costs and what affects the figure.

These are 2026 ranges for the North East. We give a fixed price after a free survey, but this helps you sense-check any quote you're given.

Boiler cost depends on three things

The boiler itself (make, model and output), the type of installation (a like-for-like swap versus changing from a conventional system to a combi), and your home (where the boiler goes, the state of the existing pipework, and whether you want extras like a smart thermostat).

A straight combi-for-combi swap in the same spot is the cheapest scenario. Converting from an old system boiler with a tank and cylinder to a modern combi is more work and more cost, because pipework and controls change.

Rough ranges

As 2026 guidance, a straightforward combi boiler swap typically lands in the region of £2,000 to £3,500 fitted, depending on the boiler chosen and the work involved. A system change or a more complex installation costs more. A premium boiler with a long warranty sits at the higher end.

Cheaper quotes exist, but be wary: a boiler is only as good as its installation, and a cheap fit with no proper flushing or commissioning costs you in breakdowns later.

Watch the warranty

Most manufacturers offer long warranties (often up to 10 years) but only if the boiler is installed by a Gas Safe registered engineer and serviced annually. We register the warranty for you and can keep the annual service on track, which protects that cover.

Should you repair or replace?

If your boiler is over about 10-12 years old, keeps breaking down, or parts are getting hard to find, replacement usually makes more sense than repeated repairs. If it's newer and the fault is one-off, a repair is the sensible call. We give honest advice either way, rather than defaulting to the bigger sale.

These figures are general guidance to help you plan, not a quote. Every job is different, and the only way to know what yours will cost is a free site visit. We come out, look at the job, and give you a fixed price in writing — no call-out charge, no obligation.

Questions we get asked

New boiler costs. Straight answers.

How much does a new combi boiler cost?

As a 2026 guide, a straightforward combi swap typically lands around £2,000 to £3,500 fitted, depending on the boiler and the work involved. A free survey gives you a fixed figure.

Is it cheaper to swap like-for-like?

Yes. A combi-for-combi swap in the same position is the cheapest scenario. Converting from a system boiler to a combi involves more pipework and costs more.

How long does a boiler installation take?

A straight swap is usually done in a day; a system change two to three days.

Do you register the warranty?

Yes, we register the manufacturer's warranty for you, and an annual service keeps it valid.

Should I repair or replace my boiler?

If it's over 10-12 years old or breaking down repeatedly, replacement usually makes more sense. Newer one-off faults are worth repairing. We advise honestly either way.
