Planning and building control in Ponteland are handled by Northumberland County Council. The area also has its own Ponteland Neighbourhood Plan, which applications are assessed against, and conservation areas covering Ponteland village and High Callerton, where extra controls apply to alterations.
Much of the land around Ponteland is Green Belt, which affects outbuildings and extensions on the edge of the village. And if your home is on the Darras Hall estate, the Estate Committee has to approve plans too.
